Solacom selected for Gatineau NG9-1-1 call taking system
Solacom Guardian next generation 9-1-1 system will soon bring a new level of 9-1-1 service to Quebec’s fourth largest city.
Chicago, IL, August 19, 2015 — Solacom Technologies, the industry leader in Next Generation 9-1-1 solutions, has been chosen by the City of Gatineau, Quebec, to supply, install and service a new 9-1-1 Guardian NG9-1-1 call taking system to replace an end-of-life ECS-1000 system. The Solacom solution will be deployed in a geo-diverse, redundant configuration at two locations to help withstand natural or man-made disasters.
The two 9-1-1 call centers, or Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), will have the new system in place by the end of the year to answer 9-1-1 calls from the community of 276,000 citizens.
The PSAPs will each receive Solacom Guardian Intelligent 9-1-1 Workstations (IWS) for state-of-the-art response to 9-1-1 calls. Guardian IWS provides additional call control functionality not seen before; for example, Call Takers have complete control of each participant of the call allowing them to create private conversations or join two separate calls together dynamically allowing parties who call into the system to communicate real-time, regardless of where the callers are located.
The Solacom solution has an IP-based architecture that meets existing i3 specifications developed by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), and is capable of evolving as those specifications are further developed.
The Guardian Call Taker Workstations are also designed to be future proof so that next generation capabilities such as Text-to-911, or exchanging video, photos and data with Call Takers or first responders can be supported as they become standardized and available to the public.
“We are extremely pleased that our Guardian system was selected for Next Generation 9-1-1 in Gatineau” said Pierre Plangger, Solacom chief executive officer. “The Guardian sets the stage for new ways of communicating with 9-1-1 services.”
Solacom will provide many core elements of the new system, including:
- Next Generation 9-1-1 call controller
- Legacy Network Gateway (LNG)
- Border Control Function (BCF)
- Automatic Location Identification / Location Information Server (ALI/LIS)
- Guardian Intelligent 9-1-1 Workstations (IWS)
- and a Network Operations Center (NOC) to monitor the health, efficiency and quality of service (QoS) of the public safety network.
