Solacom Technologies expands US operations

GATINEAU, QUEBEC, October 6, 2010 – Solacom announced the opening of an office in Chicago Illinois to expand its US operations and better serve their growing customer base of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and 9-1-1 emergency networks.

Since 1998 Solacom has sold their Liberty advanced mission communications interoperability technology for use by US defense forces as well as border and security agencies. Four generations of Solacom engineered Liberty systems have been fielded and deployed by North American forces, including the USAF and such mission critical areas as NORAD and Afghanistan operations.

However, it is Solacom’s Emergency Services Platform and Guardian product line that is fuelling their recent expansion. Since being introduced to the US market 3 years ago, sales of their 9-1-1 public safety solutions have doubled year over year. This trend is likely to continue as more PSAPs and emergency networks make the move from circuit-switched systems to IP-based solutions with Next Generation 9-1-1 capability.

“The 9-1-1 public safety agencies really need technology that prepares them for next generation IP communications such as video and text, but at the same time they must support legacy networks so that anyone with a dial-phone can still call for help. This is something that Solacom solutions excel at, and our sales reflect that,” said Ray Vilis, Solacom vice president of Advanced Emergency Systems.

“The US office is staffed by engineering personnel and will play an essential role in customer support and training, as well as remote monitoring services that Solacom will offer in the near future” added Vilis.
